Seeds of Sunshine soup jars

CPI SA is launching the Seeds of Sunshine Project, and with the project culminating on the National Seeds of Sunshine Day on March 9 each year, CPI SA wants to bring people a piece of sunshine.  Just like the sunflower that turns its face to the sun in difficult times, CPI SA wants to bring a piece of sunshine to people who quietly make others’ lives a little easier every day without expecting anything in return, or someone who is going through a difficult situation, a nurse or community worker.

We often feel the heartfelt wonder when someone extends a small kind act towards us or towards others, but we often procrastinate expressing our appreciation and gratitude towards them. Most of us have lost someone in the last few years – and each time we think we should have said or done more.  This project creates an opportunity to hand out a Seeds of Sunshine bag every day. This is how we plant seeds of sunshine all over South Africa every day.

The project is very close to our hearts.  We are launching the Seeds of Sunshine project in memory of Gladys van Wyk. With her love for Jesus and her humble way of working, she planted thousands of sunflowers in South Africa. Her motive was always love – love for her fellow human beings, children, and the Lord. It all starts with love.

Our Seeds of Sunshine bags can be distributed to anyone, anytime.  Simply fill a brown / yellow paper bag with everything yellow (NikNaks, Lays, Jelly Tots, Yellow flowers, etc), tie a yellow bow to the bag, write an appreciation note on it, give it to someone special and spread some sunshine.

The Seeds of Sunshine soup jars is another initiative stemming from the Seeds of Sunshine project, where the community can donate jars full of soup mixtures to be distributed to underprivileged communities this Winter.  Empty coffee bottles or any other empty glass jars can be filled with soup mixture and will be collected in the Western Cape area.  To donate these jars, please contact melani@cpisa.org.za

The content of the jars is:

½ cup of rice

½ cup of dried soup mixture (split peas, etc)

½ cup of lentils

1 cube of beef or chicken broth

1 packet of soup powder

Add mixture to 2,5 litres of water and cook until done.

The recipe and instructions will be added to the jars by CPI SA before distributing it. Please help us feed the needy this Winter by donating Seeds of Sunshine soup jars.

Bags of Mercy Initiative

South Africa has one of the highest rates of violence against women (GBV). The Bags of Mercy Initiative mobilises women to become an invisible friend to an abused woman by gifting a handbag – old or new – filled with things that can make her rediscover her self-worth.

Abuse against women usually takes place behind closed doors:
Hard words where no-one else can hear.
Blows where no-one can see it.
