Making sure the kids of Lavender Hill have smiles on their faces this festive season.
That is the main goal of Project 1600. This project is a collaboration between Care Protect Invest South Africa (CPI SA), Renata Vink from Holland and Free Food Kitchen.
Renate and her South African-born husband JP Skinner have a registered foundation named Stichting SOSA (Support Orphans in Southern Africa).
CPI SA is responsible for the management and administration of Project 1600. Free Food Kitchen works on the ground.
“We are so blessed to have Renate and JP doing a great job in Holland and trusting us to be a part of the process,” said Dinah Bronkhorst, CPI SA founder.
“Along with Selena (Williams) from Free Food Kitchen we are making a difference. And being able to do it this time of the year, is even more special for us…for everyone involved. I can’t say thank you enough to Renate. She is so passionate and committed to making a difference. It is a privilege and pleasure to work with her.”
For Renate it is a calling to help kids in South Africa.
“We don’t want kids to go to bed hungry,” said Renate. “We are blessed with donations and with the current Euro to Rand exchange rate we are able to make a difference.”
Renate buys the Checkers vouchers online through Computicket. “The whole process is very transparent.”
For Selena from Free Food Kitchen it is a first involvement with CPI SA.
“It is such an amazing journey to be part of. The communities we work in are so poor, but the people are so resilient. Great things are happening. What we are doing is pure human generosity in action. I am in awe of what people are willing do for each other. We have role-players who are blessings to the communities of Lavender Hill, Philippi, Hazeldean, Bokmakierie, etc.”
