|| PRESS RELEASE || Betsie Dreyer Community Kitchen needs help

The Betsie Dreyer Community Fund has a community kitchen that provides food for almost 500 people and urgently needs help to continue to provide the daily food parcels.

The Betsie Dreyer Community Fund’s Community Kitchen is in Pretoria West.

This community kitchen is a source of food for proud people who depend on a monthly SASSA grant. They simply do not have enough funds to survive.

“We ask for help to provide these 500 people with a healthy plate of food every day. We need contributions or food donations,” said Dinah Bronkhorst of CPI SA.

“Due to our country’s state of disaster, 150 families came to register for food parcels. More than 300 children also come to this kitchen to get food to fill their hungry tummies.”

According to Bronkhorst, financial contributions or food donations are urgently needed to provide weekly food parcels to the families.

Bags of Mercy Initiative

South Africa has one of the highest rates of violence against women (GBV). The Bags of Mercy Initiative mobilises women to become an invisible friend to an abused woman by gifting a handbag – old or new – filled with things that can make her rediscover her self-worth.

Abuse against women usually takes place behind closed doors:
Hard words where no-one else can hear.
Blows where no-one can see it.
