CPI SA is starting a project called Tiny Bits Baby Bags to help those caring for abandoned babies or mothers in desperate need.
In a stable home environment, the arrival of a baby is one of the most wonderful events. That feeling that the new mom gets when she receives the news: “You are pregnant”, is one that immediately overwhelms her with love for the little person inside her. The new parents’ whole life changes in the blink of an eye. The days and months are counted down and the new mom monitors the growth and development. All this happens with the support, care, and compassion of loved ones. Family and friends are there to form a support network for the family and help where they can.
However, this is not the case for everyone, says Melani Lategan, CPI SA Project Coordinator.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances this experience is not the same for all mothers. The words: ‘You are pregnant’, create fear, uncertainty and worry for some. How will she care, give love, and feed the baby? In so many cases, these babies come into the world without a support network and people to care for them. For these babies, the arms that hold him or her for the first time are clinical and without the intense love of parents that the baby so desperately needs.
“This is the reality. Not all future parents have the same feelings and responsibility to give the baby everything they need to be healthy, loved, and cherished. Then there are some parents who desperately want to give everything, but due to circumstances can’t do so. With this project, CPI SA wants to be there for every baby that is rejected and neglected. Let’s pack a Tiny Bits baby bag full of love, care and compassion!”
The baby bags will be provided to single mothers and mothers in shelters, as well as to institutions that care for babies who have been left with them by means of safety boxes.
The baby bags can be filled with, among other things, wipes, nappies (newborn / no. 1), baby-grows, socks, new pacifier, face cloth, ear buds, cotton wool, bum cream, baby shampoo / body wash, baby cream, towel.
“By filling such a baby bag, you give a baby in need the opportunity to have the same start as any other baby. CPI SA loves children, and we want to ensure that every child in South Africa gets everything to be cared for and protected,” Lategan added.
