CPI SA’s Bags of Mercy project, which originated with the singer Corléa and Mamilla Fashions, aims to give abused women something beautiful and practical in a very difficult time.
These handbags are given to victims of the atrocities when they arrive at centres that give assistance. Victims are examined by a medical doctor; statements are taken, and they receive much-needed counselling for as long as they deem it necessary.
CPI SA is happy to support local non-profit organisations that share its goals: To make a difference in the lives of all people and to uplift and help them.
“One out of three women will suffer some form of abuse during their lifetime, whether it be physical or emotional. The goal of this project is to reach this group of women and give them something small to regain their dignity,” said Melani Lategan, CPI SA Project Coordinator.
“Mercy is such a beautiful word, but it is also a verb. Get involved. To make a big difference only takes one small gesture.”
Fill a good quality second-hand bag with any of the following items: facewash, day and night cream, bodywash, washcloth, hair products and brush, deodorant, Dettol, hand cream, face sponges, wipes, sanitary pads, toothbrush and -paste, floss, razors, small packet of washing powder and a treat (no chocolates or anything that can melt).
